Project was
staged over two years and involved secondary glazing of all classrooms, halls
and teacher and administration offices. The project was funded by the federal
government as part of Sydney Airport Noise Insulation Programme. Sound Barrier
worked with architects and acoustic engineers during the preliminary stages to
assist with the customised design of appropriate aluminium framing and glazing
to meet the many different styles of windows within the school and the
stringent design and acoustic criteria. Sound Barrier supplied joinery as
required onsite, installation was only able to be undertaken during school
holidays to minimise any disturbance to the school. Acoustic testing after
completion of installation confirming Sound Barrier joinery exceeded the
design criteria and the school students and teachers are no longer disturbed
by the considerable noise of low flying aircraft during the approach and take
off from Kingsford Smith Airport.
